Background

Life Fitness started working with Dan Hood, IHF Health Club founder, back in early 2016 after a phone call enquiring about equipment and opening up a gym. His passion for Hammer Strength equipment shone through his own personal journey into fitness.

His initial concept, Iron Hood Fitness, was a small boutique gym in Christchurch CBD featuring a full range of Life Fitness cardio and Hammer Strength equipment. However, the location and size limited Dan’s full vision.

Four years later, the IHF Health Club concept was born out of Dan’s desire to open a full-service health club, with his key phrase being “Quality over Quantity” prominently featured. We worked with Dan over countless hours, experimenting with various floor plans, design aesthetics and selecting equipment, all with the end goal of creating a world-leading space. Dan had envisioned a cardio area resembling Business Class on an airline, which led us to create a cardio suite with training pods of machines separated by large planter boxes for privacy.

He also developed his version of the premium airport lounge, with the IHF members' lounge, featuring work stations, complimentary beverages and snacks, and a health-driven a la carte menu from an executive chef-led kitchen.

To top it off, he wanted features that no other club had, resulting in the inclusion of the PRAMA group fitness room, Life Fitness ICG Connect spin studio, and luxurious marble-tiled changing rooms with cold plunge pools, saunas, and stunning showers.

It was a pleasure to work with Dan on this unique high-end Health Club and see the vision come to reality and enjoyed by all his gym members.
