Situated on approximately 1800 square metres on the esteemed Sorrento waterfront sits Iluka House, a historic heritage home that exudes boundless character and charm.
The brief was to renovate and extend the existing heritage dwelling whilst paying homage to the home’s illustrious heritage.
The main challenge of this project was working within a framework of the existing 100+ year-old structure whilst refurbishing and incorporating new light-filled spaces that included the kitchen, dining and living room, four bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms and a separate formal lounge retreat. With direct frontage to Sullivans Bay, Iluka House also comprises a Jetty and boatshed which also underwent refurbishment, along with the dwellings exterior.
Within this project there are many examples of how the new spaces have been inserted into the original period fabric and how the careful balance is found between the new and old. The build was carefully crafted by respecting the original details and geometries of the home. Subtle and strategic references were made to the home’s history through the considered selection of fittings, fixtures and materials.
