The Cafe Terrace is part of a significant retail development at Karrinyup in Perth. The recently completed 700-seat precinct, adjacent the Fashion Walk on level two, delivers a new benchmark in food court design. The design concept rethinks the expected to create a bespoke, memorable, and surprising dining environment.

The design brief was to celebrate the West Australian coastal lifestyle, bringing together beachside cool with an urban edge. A local ‘New Backyard’ was created with a strong sense of place for the community. The precinct was intended to be a vital part of the new civic hub for Karrinyup.

The Café Terrace was designed to take customers on a culinary journey while also providing a stage for the food tenancies to shine. A curved, whitewashed timber fluted frame wraps around the shopfront façade, creating a portal for each tenancy, while also being a nod to local beach pavilion architecture. Natural light and seamless connections between indoor and outdoor spaces have also been integrated into the design.

The traditional food court experience has been reinvented by creating an array of uniquely designed dining environments within a large food precinct. The innovative design provides options for everyone: from dining with the family, to eating on the go, to lingering and admiring the view.

Our design for the Cafe Terrace reinvents the often ordinary and predictable shopping centre food court experience into a fresh, new dining hub for the local Karrinyup community.
