Take a peek inside the Kenilworth Residence, an impressive recently completed home featuring an elegantly designed circular staircase, located adjacent to the main entrance, making a statement as you enter the home.

Positioned in front of a large set of windows, the extensive use of glass in the design of the staircase railing and treads allows natural light to penetrate deep into the room in which it graces without obstruction.

The staircase railing is made of Glasshape’s signature TemperShield, low iron, bent 1/2′′ (12mm) glass and has a relatively tight bend radius of 27 ½” (700mm). Similarly, the stair treads are made of triple SGP laminated low iron glass, with a combined thickness of 1 ½” (39mm), which have digitally printed ceramic ink edge band on the underside of each tread, to conceal their fixing interface with the steel structure of the staircase.

Glasshape was honoured to collaborate with Ironwood Connection. Initially, Digital Field Measuring services will be provided utilizing the latest Laser Scanning Technology to capture the as-built staircase structure and surrounding built environment. The Point Cloud Data obtained from the Field Measure was then used to reverse 3D computer model the staircase and design the bent glass railings and laminated stair treads to fit and in preparation for manufacture.

The finished result is a reflection of the combined effort and attention to detail from everyone involved in this complex and beautifully executed project.
