Prefabricated Cassette-Style Balcony and Balustrade System for a Cambridge Retirement Village
A modular cassette-style balcony and balustrade system, craned into place and bolted directly to the structure, cutting time out of a multi-year build.
Lauriston Park sits on Cambridge's highest point and offers independent living, aged care, and specialist dementia care around award-winning gardens with views of the Pirongia and Te Miro hills. Ignite Architects, led by Todd Myers, ran the design process over several years, and after reviewing the market selected UNEX to supply both balustrades and balconies as a single unified system, rather than sourcing them separately.
The prefabricated units were craned into place and bolted to the building, streamlining installation on site. Myers said "their modular, prefabricated solution made installation quick and easy, and the design perfectly complemented the rest of the building."
The finished system carries consistent detailing across the development's balconies while meeting the different safety needs of independent living, aged-care, and dementia-care residents on the same site.
