The original 1880's worker's cottage required the modern convenience of a family-sized kitchen, laundry and open plan living connected with the outdoors. Our star features are the special places for the family: the winter sunshine reading spot, the kitchen herb garden, the private parent's deck, and the backyard observation deck overlooking the play areas, garden privacy vine screens and edible native hedges. The charm of the street front prewar worker's cottage is celebrated in this project.

The locall council's planning department were so happy with the respect shown to this dwelling, that is is now used as an example for owner's wishing to renovate their prewar homes.

The 1880's workers cottage now features modern ceiling, roof and wall insulation, modern plumbing and electrical systems, while still retaining the full charm of the 140 year old house.

An external deck links the original cottage and the new extension, and leads you out to the kitchen garden.

The kitchen is the central point for the family. The new wing features natrual light and cross breeze ventilation. The open plan space is surrounded by private spaces which cater beautifully for the overflow required for extended gatherings.

The bathroom is accessible and backs onto the laundry, with timber features bringing warmth to the space.
