Hospitality Interiors and Floor Design - Camperdown - 250 sqm

Cradle Design worked closely with project managers, Property Beyond and builders, Berhar Building to refurbish the existing Lion Malt Shovel brewery trade and tasting bar. The new hospitality interiors were to pay homage to the historic roots of this well-known brewery.

The floor design included a purpose-designed bar with rear repurposed meeting tables that could be raised up into bar tables. It also featured a bar display area and a new workplace area for the brewers, all within the large high-ceiling volume of the first-floor venue.

Due to the brewery's historic nature and its location, the hospitality design came with some challenges. Access to the area was difficult. The entry point was a staircase which sat adjacent to the brewing vats. The brewery had to remain open during the works, adding a degree of difficulty for workmen. Exemplary project planning and a close working relationship between the project team and builder ensured the works were delivered on time, to a high standard and within budget.

To create an authentic brand experience, related brewery building materials were used in conjunction with the original building fabric to create the new floor design. Existing brickwork was sandblasted and exposed throughout the space to create a raw backdrop for the venue. At completion of the project, the hospitality interiors featured a high-exposed industrial truss roof, existing timber floors that were polished and multiple bar display areas with copper piping to reflect the adjacent brewing vats.
