Mansion Home is a renovation project of an original Federation house. Cindy, the owner of the project is a collector of incredible Neoclassic French objects, doors, mirrors, dresses, books. Cindy wanted to create a modern multigenerational home for her family with the help of an architect that had experience and knowledge of Neoclassic French Architecture.
A space that is bright and welcoming, and represents the context and celebrate the history of Bellevue Hill.
The project came with challenges, particularly with local council regulations. During the design phase, changes to the Floor Space Ratio (FSR) controls required adjustments. To navigate this, we introduced new voids and reduced distribution areas, ensuring the project remained aligned with the revised guidelines.
One of the standout features of the design is its ability to draw natural light into every corner of the home. The old structure struggled with limited light, especially with The Scots College to the north obstructing sunlight. The new design overcame this challenge by reconfiguring the layout into two pavilions connected by a central, more transparent volume with double-height spaces. This articulation allows natural light to flow in from the center, illuminating both the ground and first floors.
