Mesa Morningside's form emulates and celebrates its setting. Clay brick, black metal, and concrete render give a nod to the area’s industrial past, while oriel windows and vertical metal louvres give contemporary punctuation to the building’s facade. Along the eastern border, Pohutukawa trees form an evergreen fringe. The result is a building that feels distinct yet gentle, iconic yet in total harmony with its surrounds. A rumination on days gone by and a spark of inspiration for those to come.
Buildings are designed as one entity, yet homes are experienced on an individual level — shaped by the sights, sounds and textures we encounter as we move through them. Exploring this, we sought to create a sequence of repeated and isolated moments for residents as they make their way from the bustling local streets into the quiet of their homes. A new piece to Morningside’s mosaic surroundings.
We want to lift the quality of housing in New Zealand.
Not only does New Zealand need more homes, but it also needs more well-designed, healthy, and sustainable homes that nurture its occupants, both today and in the future.
Driven by a genuine belief that anyone can thrive in property development, Jess and Thomas have committed to a simple aim; to empower more people to build positive, meaningful projects, and help a new generation of kiwis into homes.
Drawing from their backgrounds in architecture, fine arts, and real estate, and having learned invaluable lessons from their own property projects, they want to make property developing easy to understand and accessible for anyone ready to embrace the challenge.
