Designed by Rogan Nash Architects, No Place Like Home is a contemporary new beachfront house in Mount Maunganui. Long and low in form, the home combines robust coastal materials, generous overhangs and a sheltered internal courtyard to create relaxed, light-filled spaces connected to the beach.

Located on the beachfront in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, No Place Like Home is a contemporary new house by Rogan Nash Architects, designed to embrace coastal living while providing privacy, shelter and a strong sense of retreat.

From the beach, the house presents as a long, low and restrained form. Plastered concrete block walls and grey aluminium joinery create a robust, enduring exterior suited to the coastal environment, while the horizontal composition allows the architecture to sit quietly within its beachfront setting.

The home opens generously to the landscape. A roof overhang extends across the wide deck, providing shade and shelter while creating an outdoor room overlooking the sand and sea. Large areas of glazing connect the interior living spaces to the deck, allowing natural light, coastal views and the changing character of the beach to become part of everyday life.

An internal courtyard brings light and landscape into the centre of the plan while providing a protected outdoor space away from the prevailing coastal conditions. This sheltered heart creates a sense of calm and privacy, balancing the openness of the beachfront elevation and allowing the home to respond to different weather conditions throughout the year.

Living spaces are arranged across both levels, creating flexibility for family life, entertaining and retreat. The ground floor maintains a direct connection to the deck, courtyard and beach, while the upper level offers an elevated perspective across the coastal landscape. The planning balances generous shared spaces with quieter areas, allowing the house to adapt to changing patterns of occupation.

There's No Place Like Home is a modern beach house shaped by its remarkable Mount Maunganui setting. Through its low horizontal form, robust material palette, sheltered courtyard and seamless connection to the beach, the home creates a relaxed and enduring environment for contemporary coastal living.
