Murphy Road Development
Located in Flat Bush, Auckland, 285 Murphys Road is a large-scale mixed residential development that embodies the principles of modern urban village design — integrating architecture, landscape, and community life into a cohesive whole.
Urban Framework
The masterplan is structured around a central spine, where terraced homes, apartments, and local amenities are woven together to create a connected and walkable neighbourhood. The development responds to the site’s natural contours and orientation, maximising sunlight, views, and open space throughout.
Architectural Language
The architectural expression balances rhythm and variety.
- A series of gabled terrace forms create a strong, identifiable street character, while subtle shifts in roof pitch and façade articulation avoid visual repetition.
- The apartment buildings anchor the corners, marking entry points with bold vertical proportions and layered façades that break down their mass and enhance human scale.
- Materials such as light brick, dark metal, and warm timber panels are composed to reflect a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic, resonating with Auckland’s suburban context.
Public Realm & Community Design
At street level, landscaped front yards, pocket gardens, and shared pedestrian lanes encourage interaction and soften the urban form. Ground-floor retail and communal spaces activate the edges, transforming the development into a lively, people-centred environment.
Design Intent
The project aspires to offer diverse living options — from compact apartments to spacious townhouses — all unified by design quality and sustainable performance. Generous glazing, natural ventilation, and material durability underpin a comfortable, enduring living experience.
