Moody Blues Powder Room - Trends Winner

The brief was for this powder room was for a moody look, with some eye-catching difference. The existing room had tiled floors and walls, which made it feel utilitarian. A much softer aesthetic was requested. Although this powder room would be used primarily for guests, one of the daughters would also use it for teeth brushing in the morning and evenings, so some storage for her, plus for toilet rolls and guest hand towels was important.
Herringbone -patterned timber flooring and tactile metallic floral wallpaper were specified to give a feeling of warmth. A rustic vintage cabinet, which we found online, was painted with chalk paint to give it more drama and vibrancy. All the skirting boards, window surround, ceiling, and the inside of the door, were painted in a soft yet bright blue, which adds a colourful punch to the scheme. Paint was practical and easy option – and if the client wanted a more subdued look in the future, it could be easily changed with minimal cost and effort. A complimentary brown, marble-look porcelain tile was used as a practical splashback behind the basin.
A small concertina-magnifying mirror was the client’s preferred choice over a large mirror. They also liked the idea of the vanity being located below the picturesque window. This room showcases mixing the old with the new, the modern with the classic, with the ultimate aim being that anyone spending time in here will have an enjoyable experience.
