Located at Mahurangi, north of Tāmaki Makaurau, if you look hard enough you will find this sprawling and thoroughly modern residence surrounded by grasslands and bounded by farmland, estuary and rejuvenating native bush.

The project brief was to create a generous and sophisticated family home appropriate to the unique natural characteristics of the site. The architectural form hints at a Balinese resort with linkages between spaces achieved through internal and external walkways.

This resort reference is articulated in modern and often minimal spaces, with roof forms producing a layering effect. The home is light and airy with vaulted ceilings and extensive use of ceiling windows through the central axis.

Situated to capture extensive and varied views of the wetlands and surrounding environs, the requirements of the family home are balanced with the environment which includes significant regeneration of native planting.
