Our design firm was approached by a family of five to design a modern coastal home. They requested cathedral ceilings throughout the open plan kitchen, living, and dining area with underfloor hydronic heating throughout. In addition, they asked for a swimming pool and a home that could be cooled naturally without the need for air conditioning.

We used natural materials like engineered-timber floors and stone and incorporated VJ panelling to achieve a contemporary look with a beachy feel. The high-pitched roofline extended throughout the living area, creating a sense of grandeur and allowing ample natural light to flow through the high gable windows. We incorporated ceiling fans for natural cooling, and a swimming pool was seamlessly integrated into the outdoor living area.

The result was a success; the family now has a functional and inviting home that perfectly fits their lifestyle. The combination of natural materials, high-pitched ceilings, and open-plan living created a modern coastal vibe that is both sophisticated and relaxed. Incorporating natural cooling systems and a swimming pool added to the overall comfort and functionality of the home.
