This large backyard garden design in Romsey, a town north of Melbourne, in the Shire of Macedon Ranges, was all about creating a modern outdoor entertaining space to be enjoyed year-round. The swimming pool, with its soft grey natural stone paved surfaces, allows plenty of space for sun lounges and some feature garden urns. The large lawn area leads to an undercover BBQ area and then further on to a fire pit, with a custom-designed bench seat. This 3D modern garden design also includes feature trees and soft plantings for a good balance of greenery.

Choosing the right size pool for your home

Size really does matter when it comes to choosing a pool and it should never be just about maximising the swimming space but more about maximising the potential of the pool and the surrounding landscape as a whole.

Quite often, people can make the mistake of assuming the bigger the pool, the better and in doing so, end up with a space that’s dominated by water with not much room left for the surrounding landscape. Now don't get me wrong, a larger pool can be the way to go if you have plenty of room but with property sizes becoming smaller, not having the right proportion of space around the pool, can result in very low visual appeal and function, not to mention, little to no return on investment.

The best pool and landscapes are those that have the right balance. Making sure you’ve allowed enough space for key factors like plantings, pool furniture, and decorative features will be crucial to a good outcome. Other items like pool fencing and filtration equipment are also key factors to getting it right.

Careful planning should not only help integrate the pool with the rest of the landscape but also with the home itself. Creating a wish list of all the things you would like to add, will give you a better idea of how the space could look and function and also give you a much better understanding of the right size pool for your home.
