The design of this landscape involved a complete revamp of the existing garden, from the layout to the planting.

The street frontage included bold plantings of Pohutakawa Māori Princess, Arthropodium, Buxus, and a Griselinia hedge to provide privacy to the front entrance.

Leading off the driveway, we relocated existing large, flat schist rocks to form floating steps which meander down the slope through plantings of Trachylospermum groundcover, Buxus spheres, Ligularia reniformis and Mondo grass. Jacquemontii birches and Michelias provide vertical structure.

Alongside the steps is a large feature wall of curved Corten steel which forms the backdrop to the lovely pond.  Water spills from the wall into the pond which features a Corten steel stingray.  A flowering cherry softens the edge of the wall.

The water feature provides a focal point from the living areas of the house, whilst sitting beside but not detracting from the beautiful views of the city across to the Southern Alps.

The revamp also included an extension to the existing deck to lead into a new covered spa area, up new steps and then to a new service area and shed.

The new garden has provided the client with a beautiful low maintenance, contemporary space to enjoy.
