The owner's brief was to build a home that would feel really solid in the ground, following the earthquakes, so there was a lot of in-situ concrete columns and structural steel incorporated into the design. They also wanted a home that would suit their growing family, a home office and two outdoor areas, one of which would offer shelter. It was really important to take full advantage of the spectacular views down to Sumner and also of the mountains beyond.
