Silver Linings

Not a shrinking violet by any stretch of the imagination, Silver Linings is quite the monolithic beachside abode. Nestled amongst rugged terrains of sand dunes and beach grass, this exquisite home is a continuous sequence of ‘silver lined’ spaces. A five-year journey from start to finish, this project was a true labour of love for architects Rachcoff Vella. Silver Linings is an example of true architectural discipline. This is a home created with only a few materials, with every aspect meticulously sourced, detailed, customised and coordinated. Bespoke fittings and fixtures were painstakingly collected and handmade specifically for the project. With such design restraint, acute discipline is needed. This meant the architects were constantly required to supervise the building, with continuous oversight needed until the project was complete in order to ensure the desired outcome. In a project where every detail had to be just right, we are thrilled to see our very own Stuv 21 included. This fireplace is the perfect match for this home and the discerning tastes of its occupants. This home is a true celebration of minimalism. Raw and brutal concrete envelops the delicate natural aged timber and glass exterior, cutting an imposing figure in the landscape.  Inside, the all-over soft colour palette of grey and silver lining boards, brass fittings and white oak joinery feel warm in darker areas of the home. And where there is an abundance of natural light, spaces feel open and the materials reflect the glow of the sun. The acute attention to detail brought to bear on this project came about from the client’s ambition to set the bar high with this project. After years of hard work, it is clear that their meticulous approach has most definitely paid off – the resulting home an absolute design marvel. And clearly, we are not the only ones who think so, with Silver Linings shortlisted in this year’s Houses Awards for the New House over 200m2 category. Photography: Tatjana Plitt
