St Nicholas Early Education Centre in Chisholm, a growing suburb of Maitland, provides learning and play space for 65 children. The suburb is located on a low ridge falling to the surrounding floodplain and wetlands, and to the Hunter River catchment beyond.

The design approach incorporates studio explorations of the alluvial patterns of the local floodplains, within a broader strategy of natural, inclusive play and learning. The play elements take advantage of the natural sloping site, including predominantly timber and water play elements with gradual challenging play areas for children with different ability levels aged 3-5 years old.
