Te Puia is the thermal centre located in the cultural epicentre of Rotorua. The Wharekai project consisted of the demolition of the existing and dated premises, and the construction of the all new contemporary concrete structure which houses the visitor centre, restaurant and bar. The Allistar Cox designed building beholds incredible visual site-lines through to the natural beauty of this thermal wonderland. Allistar’s ability to amalgamate natural timber and concrete is a sight to behold.
The entire structure was constructed in formed concrete, creating a complex and involved process to ensure the integrity of the architect’s design. Holmes Construction Group and their Wairarapa team completed this stunning project for the client over a 20-month period, on-time and on-budget. On this project the team effectively built relationships with and managed a wide range of local subcontractors who were involved in the build. The Holmes Wairarapa team delivered a superior level of quality and craftsmanship to the project, along with Renall’s Joinery, who supplied all the timber finishing work, allowing Te Puia its inspired and detailed aesthetic.
