The Red Shed
This farm manager's house has been designed to reference the rural outbuildings found elsewhere on the property, typical throughout the rural landscape of Cambridge and the broader Waikato. Its simple utilitarian exterior belies the interior spaces which are clustered around the covered outdoor entertaining area.
Jury Citation:
“A basic farm workers’ cottage lifted clear of the mitre of the conventional box by a series of simple, well executed plan and form manipulations.
A strict brief, limited means and an uncompromising site have not subdued the architect's efforts to offer unexpected delight.”
