Tiramarama Way | Auckland’s Newest Urban Space
The job required a range of precast concrete items from small stepping stones and concrete planters to 8 ton ‘purposeful puddles’. This sounded like an exciting challenge for Jagas and fell right into our area of expertise.
Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter is undergoing a transformation from an old industrial port closed to the public, to a public space in which people can work, be entertained, relax and do business. The beginning of this transformation has seen a variety of bars, restaurants and events root themselves in this flourishing area of Auckland’s waterfront, quickly establishing itself as a popular destination for visitors. The most recent part of the development has been the opening of Tiramarama Way.
A purposefully designed laneway x Urban Space for the public to enjoy. Tiramarama Way literally means “to shine, glimmer and light the way”. Gently nestled between Daldy and Halsey St, this beautifully designed space exhibits some excellent examples of Maori culture. From purposeful puddles designed to rise and fall with the tides and provide a play area to star constellations specific to Maori Astronomy represented by hanging lights. This space is a project that Jagas are very proud to have been a part of.
