Waikato Diocesan School for Girls embarked on a transformative journey to upgrade their hockey facilities, inspired by a visit to Hamilton Boys High School. Witnessing the capabilities demonstrated at Hamilton Boys High School, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls eagerly enlisted TigerTurf to revitalize their hockey facilities, transitioning from an older TigerTurf surface with Netball and Tennis line markings to a top-level hockey surface.
Final Thoughts From the School
“Due to the proven reliability of their stable of products and the strength of their brand, WDSG elected to engage TigerTurf to deliver the school’s recently completed Hockey Turf modernisation project. To date neither they nor their lighting and irrigation subcontractors have disappointed with the school regarding the overall undertaking a resounding success.” - Vince Maree, Property Manager, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls
Turf Resurface
Under the guidance of TigerTurf the school undertook the challenging task of uplifting and disposing the turf themselves, utilizing internal resource to keep project costs down.
TigerTurf then marked out the site and performed minor base repairs for the installation of the turf. TigerTurf first installed a 10mm rubber pad followed by a new WETT Pro surface, to meet the high standards of FIH hockey. For the final special touch, a custom logo was made by SignGrass and was installed at the halfway line.
Lights Upgrade
With the goal of achieving FIH CLASS II (500 Lux) lighting standards, additional light towers were strategically added in the centre of the field. Lumosa LED Luminaires were selected for their quality and efficiency.
Irrigation System
In partnership with Think Water, TigerTurf also oversaw the installation of a field irrigation system to enhance playing conditions.
This system features solid set sprinklers positioned above ground designed to create an authentic wet hockey field experience – perfectly complementing the TigerTurf WETT Pro Turf.

We’re one of the largest synthetic turf manufacturers in the world, but we started in Auckland, New Zealand in 1981. We still make almost all of our products in our Auckland factory, with materials manufactured by our parent company, TenCate Grass. Local manufacturing means that we can ensure quality is maintained throughout the process.

You want to make sure the company you choose to work with knows what they're doing. We've been in the synthetic turf industry for almost 40 years, and have also been instrumental in developing the products and systems that result in world class, top performing surfaces. We design, manufacture, install and maintain our surfaces, applying the innovation and expertise we've gained over the years into every project - large or small.

- Quality and Innovation
We control the quality and performance of every synthetic turf system we create, in our own factory, at every step of the production process. We control where and how our yarns are extruded. We control which products go into our fibres. We develop and manufacture our own backing cloths. We develop, manufacture and build the performance bases that we lay our turf systems over. And finally, we can recycle our old, end-of-life products into new, start-of-life products.
