Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Centre: A striking architectural response to the region's landscape and heritage, featuring curving stone-clad walls, interactive exhibition spaces, and panoramic views of iconic rock formations.
Client: NSW National Parks and Recreation
Awards:
- AIA NSW Award, Sustainable Architecture
- AIA NSW Commendation, Public Architecture
The new Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Centre is a dramatic response to the unique landscape and rich cultural heritage of the region. The National Park and the original visitor centre were devastated by the 2013 fires that swept through the area and the centre now offers a wide range of visitor amenities, acting as a hub for park users as well as an interactive exhibition space. Providing a strong sense of arrival, powerful curving stone-clad walls celebrate the region’s geology while inside, the Centre provides unobstructed views of the notable rock formations. Themes of geology, astronomy and indigenous connections add to the drama of the interior spaces.
