“TigerTurf WETT Pro is the best surface we have had at North Harbour Hockey and is already a firm favourite with our hockey community,” said Riki Burgess, the CEO of North Harbour Hockey.
Performance, Quality and FIH Certification were prerequisites for North Harbour Hockey.
TigerTurf resurfaced the main hockey pitch at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium with TigerTurf WETT Pro, giving North Harbour the ability to host international tournaments on the most technically advanced playing surface available in the world.
North Harbour Hockey has excellent facilities with a superb pitch
North Harbour hosts several major national hockey tournaments and international events every year and wanted a top-class pitch to match the high standard of its facilities at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium.
There was a limited amount of time available to carry out the resurfacing of the pitch, as it is used all year by the hockey community. TigerTurf could comply with the restricted time available for the project with some careful planning.
TigerTurf WETT Pro hockey surface
WETT Pro is made from highly durable monofilament yarn, giving this surface outstanding properties: a longer playing life than other hockey turfs, a safe, non-slip surface, and free movement of the stick and ball in all directions. The ball sits on the ends of the blades, making more accurate, powerful shots possible.
The hockey pitch had to be playable with a limited water supply, which TigerTurf WETT Pro surface can do, and to maintain adequate drainage during the wet winter. TigerTurf installations are carefully designed to drain freely even in wet climates. North Harbour commented: “The WETT Pro surface drains the fastest of our 3 water turfs, allowing play right through our wet winters.” TigerTurf also needed to ensure the gluing system used with the new turf enabled the turf to be easily lifted and relocated to the new National Hockey Centre facility.
TigerTurf rubber shock pad gives players an advantage.
TigerTurf WETT Pro is installed over a rubber shock pad to extend the hockey surface's life expectancy and improve the players' feel. The soft, spongy surface also encourages the players' skilful stick play and technical maneuvers. Hockey players expend great energy in racing up and down the pitch; a good rubber shock pad absorbs impact, reducing the risk of injury. Did we mention that hockey players tend to overreach themselves, and falls are not uncommon? The humble, spongy rubber shock pad that lurks beneath our hockey surfaces is a hero in many ways.

Local manufacturing means that we can ensure quality is maintained throughout the process.

- Quality and Innovation
We control the quality and performance of every synthetic turf system we create, in our own factory, at every step of the production process. We control where and how our yarns are extruded. We control which products go into our fibres. We develop and manufacture our own backing cloths. We develop, manufacture and build the performance bases that we lay our turf systems over. And finally, we can recycle our old, end-of-life products into new, start-of-life products.
