Nestled in the picturesque semi-rural landscape of Tairawhiti, Whare Taramārama is Pou Architecture’s response to a residential dwelling built on the site of a former orchard in Gisborne.
The home provides connection to the surrounding land, whakapapa and mahi toi, designed to orientate towards te maunga Taramārama in the distance.
Designed in two separate forms, the pitched roofs converge on arrival to reference the traditional wharenui form. The external cladding boasts an eye-catching array of plywood with varied batten profiles, evocative of nature's splendidly imperfect patterns.
Simple construction and materiality showcase a modern representation of traditional architecture into a contemporary and sustainable home.
Operating from our Kapiti-based studios, POU Architecture is a high-end Pasifika and Māori run studio – fast establishing a reputation as an innovative, quality-focused and collaborative architectural practice with the skills and motivation to provide architectural solutions for any challenge.
