Strong yet subtle is the oxymoron that best describes the monumental presence of this home. This design demonstrates the seamless integration of simple geometric shapes through bold lines and sharp edges.
The cubism movement first found its feet in Paris. Since then, cubism grew into an ever-evolving beast that developed in Mexico, America and other parts of Europe. Paying homage to a modern-day adaption of the cubism movement, one can marvel at the design of this boutique Winthrop residence.
Commanding attention while retaining a minimalistic look, this hope utilises the power of shapes and the gentle impact of monochromes to provide duality.
The driving force behind this design was the blade wall to the ground floor street elevation, which concealed the house's functionality, leaving an element of mystery whilst featuring decorative patterns within the brickwork.
To contrast this lineal position, the façade to the floor above was created as a cube with indented apertures to maintain this strong form. Setting it back from the blade wall, restrained a level of dominance to the surrounding built form - further emphasised by the contrast in colour and materiality.
The sloping site allowed for the upper level to take advantage of the sweeping vistas to the west, whilst allowing the lower level to include an infinity pool that took advantage of these views without the need for significant excavation.

By utilising the latest in BIM modelling techniques and various visualisation platforms, we are able to catalyse the unique qualities of each project to create a concept-driven design process across multiple disciplines.
Through intense rigor, invention and process, we produce experiential spaces that heighten sensory perception that evokes a reaction – one that people can feel, not just see, inspiring thought and reflection. Form and spaces are not just limited to the site; it is entwined within the surrounding contextual fabric, hence DGK Architects believe in a holistic approach to create harmony between the two realms.
