BY Projects Architecture is a Melbourne-based residential practice led by Barbara Yerondais FRAIA, specialising in heritage restoration, sustainable design, and community housing. With over 35 years of experience and more than 400 projects delivered across Victoria — including 59 heritage overlays and 235+ social housing dwellings — the practice brings deep expertise in navigating complex council planning processes, heritage conservation requirements, and building science. Barbara is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, registered in both Victoria and Queensland, and a former lecturer in construction and property at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne. BY Projects operates on a fixed-fee model, offering clients cost certainty from the drafting table through to completion. The practice is known for its collaborative, honest approach — designing homes that are liveable, sustainable, and built to endure, not to impress a magazine cover. Whether it's a heritage rear extension in Albert Park, a second-storey addition in Hawthorn, or adaptive reuse of a heritage building, BY Projects brings the intellectual rigour and warmth to get it right. BY Projects Architecture offer a range of services, from early Feasibility Studies through to Construction, complete with total Project Management. We are committed to a social purpose; and through the coalition of technical, aesthetic and economic forces, we seek to provide innovative and sustainable solutions. We endeavour to ensure that our designs are brought to completion on time and on budget. Our designs are a response to both the client’s aspirations and the site conditions, with an emphasis on designing for Sustainability and good Urban Design principles. All our designs are given careful consideration as to appropriate construction methods, location, scale and economic expectations.
