Sleek and stylish: Bathroom vanity trends for modern Australian spaces

Colour trends for bathroom vanities have evolved, with natural and neutral tones expected to lead the way in 2025. These colours create a minimalist, calming atmosphere, making them ideal for creating a serene space. Green has gained popularity recently, whether as a vanity colour or as an accent on walls, offering a fresh, natural feel that suits contemporary bathrooms. If green isn’t to your taste, light grey and matte black are also trending choices. Light grey provides a soft, tranquil touch, while matte black adds sophistication and reduces the glossy finish that can sometimes overpower a bathroom's aesthetic.

Japandi style blends the best elements of Scandinavian and Japanese design, offering sleek, minimalist aesthetics that are both elegant and highly functional. Characterised by neutral tones, clean lines, and natural materials, it creates a serene, clutter-free environment — ideal for modern bathrooms. Incorporating a Japandi vanity into your bathroom not only adds a unique, sophisticated touch but also promotes a sense of calm and simplicity. It's the perfect way to create a spa-like retreat while keeping your space organised and fresh.

A freestanding vanity can be a simple addition that transforms your entire bathroom. Similar to freestanding baths, freestanding vanities don’t need to be mounted to a supporting wall. This quality allows them to become independent furnishings in their own right, which brings a liberating feel to a space. With a bit of flexibility in terms of placement and positioning within your bathroom interior, freestanding vanities can also create better layering and depth to a bathroom.

Cullter-free spaces will continue to gain popularity as minimalism holds strong for many households. Bold colours, excessive decoration, and elaborate backsplashes are being replaced by muted tones and simple, streamlined designs. A minimalist bathroom design focuses on neutral colours, clean lines, and a more pared-back aesthetic. This isn't just about style — it's also a practical choice, particularly for smaller bathrooms. Opting for minimalist vanities doesn't have to mean sacrificing storage; instead, it’s about clever design that conceals it seamlessly.

Floating vanities have appeared at the top of bathroom vanity trends lists for years, so much so that they are almost a given for any bathroom upgrade. For those who aren't in the know, floating vanities are anchored to the wall rather than the floor, creating a real and illusionary feeling of space. It also gives a more sleek and modern bathroom appearance, a timeless quality they have retained over the years. It's an extremely simple and effective upgrade and another that is very popular for smaller-sized bathrooms and ensuites.

Nature-inspired bathrooms continue to be a popular option for many, with natural materials playing a central role in creating a calming, organic atmosphere. Incorporating wood finishes or accents on your vanity, along with carefully placed plants, is a simple yet effective way to bring this trend to life. A hanging air plant draped over the side of your vanity offers an easy way to infuse a fresh, lively touch to your space — ideal for nature enthusiasts. On the more luxurious side, a natural stone countertop, such as quartz or marble, can elevate the space with a refined, opulent feel. While this may depend on your budget, it’s a worthy consideration for those seeking a more indulgent natural aesthetic.

Double vanities are perfect for couples and large families with competing schedules. Choosing a double vanity means more space for everyone in the household. Doubling up on vanities means you double up on everything else — mirrors, basins, counter and cabinet space. It is something that reads so appealingly off the page. You need to have the space, of course, which makes it most suitable for the master bathroom of a family home, but couples with narrow and long ensuites also often consider it for the same reasons mentioned above.

For those seeking a unique and nostalgic touch, vintage and retro-inspired vanities are making a comeback. These vanities often feature intricate details, such as ornate carvings or retro finishes, and pair beautifully with modern fixtures for a contrast that works well. From mid-century modern to art deco designs, these pieces offer a charming way to add character to your bathroom while keeping it stylish and fresh. Whether it's a vintage wood finish or a classic ceramic basin, retro-inspired vanities are perfect for creating a timeless look in your bathroom.
