"If you're building a new home or renovating, it's never too early to start thinking about the kitchen," says Cathie, of Poliform's specialist in-house design team. "The kitchen is one of the most important and frequently used spaces in the home, and a well-designed kitchen requires careful planning and coordination that complements the architectural and interior design vision."
That planning doesn’t often start with materials. "Early consideration allows homeowners to think through how they live, entertain, cook and interact as a family, ensuring the kitchen is designed to support their lifestyle," Cathie explains. "It also gives adequate time to develop the layout, select finishes and appliances, and coordinate services such as plumbing, lighting and electrical requirements."
In most contemporary homes, that lifestyle conversation extends beyond the kitchen's four walls and connects seamlessly with living, dining and outdoor areas, making sightlines, material selections, storage and furniture integration essential considerations from the outset—not just afterthoughts resolved once a layout is already fixed.

The reward for that early attention is practical as much as aesthetic. "Starting the design process early provides greater flexibility, and helps avoid costly changes later," Cathie says. "It also means timelines can be met, particularly when working towards a specific completion date." Investing that time at the planning stage, she notes, is ultimately what leads to a kitchen that's not just beautiful, but genuinely functional and built to last.
From there, the process moves at its own pace, refined across several meetings with the Poliform design team, developed alongside a client's architect or designer, before manufacturing begins in Italy and installation is coordinated on-site. The earlier the conversation begins, the more a kitchen feels less like a finishing touch, and more like where a home actually starts.
