Cube Wall Series, Versatile Light Inside And Out

An up and down wall light earns its place on almost any project. From a single point and a single circuit it lights a doorway, gives a wall depth after dark, and marks the way in for anyone arriving after sunset. The Halcyon Cube series adds something useful to that. Both up and down apertures are adjustable, so the light can be aimed on site to suit the wall it is fixed to. It is a small feature that makes a considerable difference once the fitting is installed and the surrounding finishes are in place.
Setting the beam on site
The right setting depends on the surface. On schist column, brick or board formed concrete, we recommend a tighter beam, which lets the texture cast its own shadows and gives the surface real depth. On smooth plaster or painted weatherboard, opening the beam out produces a softer and more even wash that flatters the finish.
Because the adjustment happens after installation, the aiming can be checked at night against the finished wall and tuned to suit. To achieve the best outcome, we suggest walking the approach to the house once the fittings are live, then adjusting to taste before the electrician signs off.
A form that sits comfortably anywhere
The Cube is a simple form in a matt textured finish, which is why it works across such a broad range of architecture. On a contemporary elevation it reads as a considered detail. On a traditional villa it sits quietly against the existing joinery and lets the building remain the feature.
Three finishes are available. Matt textured black and charcoal recede against dark cladding and stained timber, while white suits plaster, light schist and painted weatherboard.

Choosing a size
The three sizes allow the fitting to be matched to the scale of the wall it sits on.
EX909
Size: 100x100x90mm
Typical application: Entry doors, porches, courtyards, interior hallways and stairs
EX919
Size: 120x120x120mm
Typical application: Garage walls, longer elevations, double height entries, feature columns
EX921
Size: 150x150x150mm
Typical application: Tall gables, boundary walls, commercial entries and walls above three metres
Mounting height around 1900mm to 2100mm suits most entries, keeping the apertures above eye level for anyone standing at the door. On a taller wall, mounting higher generally gives a better result than choosing a wider beam, as the wash has more surface to travel across.
On a contemporary elevation it reads as a considered detail. On a traditional villa it sits quietly against the existing joinery and lets the building remain the feature.

One fitting, inside and out
All three sizes carry an IP65 rating and are equally suited to interior walls. This is worth designing around. The same fitting can run along an entry elevation, continue through the front door and up a stairwell without any change of product, so the transition from outside to inside reads as one considered scheme.
Specification at a glance
All three sizes share the same build. An aluminium body, an incorporated dimmable driver, 220 to 240V supply, and Class I construction, so an earth is required. Colour rendering is CRI 80 with SDCM 3 binning, which keeps colour consistent across a run of fittings on the same elevation. Rated life is 60,000 hours to L80, the output is flicker free, and all three models are covered by a five year warranty.
Standard colour temperature is 3000K, which suits most residential exteriors. A 4000K option is available in black only for commercial applications.
