Be it a commercial space or a residential area, a landscape plays a vital role in the property’s overall aesthetic and the way it functions. From the vibrant seasonal colours, that plant life can bring, to the functional spaces created by stone and timber, the perfect landscape is all about balance. But beyond beauty, an outdoor garden landscape, offers countless benefits for the people that enjoy them. Relaxation, entertaining and therapy to list a few. However, the entire landscape garden design process, is not always as easy as 1-2-3. Considering all the options and careful planning, is the key to success. This important stage can be made easy with the help of professional landscape designers, like Anthony Scott Landscape Design. To get you started, here are some tips to consider, to get you on the right track :
1. Assess your space.
By taking the time to really observe your outdoor spaces, this will help you understand the pros and cons of each area. Start by thinking about the things you want to keep and the things you want gone. Take notes on where the sun is at any time of the day and whether or not your climate, will play a role in how plants may survive. Knowing your soil is another huge benefit before making a start, as this will help with drainage and plant health. Don’t forget to check with local authorities, if you have any easements, overlays or other restrictions. Doing this will most certainly give you the best, landscape garden design outcome and save you, from any costly mistakes. Anthony Scott Landscape Design, takes all of these factors and more into account when designing gardens. If you feel hesitant, about doing your own space analysis, we can help you to make the best assessment of your site.
2. Make a wish list.
Think of all the things you would like to bring into your dream outdoor garden landscape and make a list. This may be anything from a swimming pool, an alfresco for entertaining, large lawn areas for the kids, or a tranquil retreat for the adults. At this stage, just let your mind wander a bit and jot down your ideas. It’s a great idea to include all the occupants in the house, and get as many garden ideas as possible. A landscape garden design professional, will be able to provide great design ideas and also help you make a shortlist, of the most important items to include, so you can stick within your budget and give your outdoor spaces, the biggest bang for buck!. At Anthony Scott Landscape Design, we love dreaming up garden design ideas with our clients!
3. We all need to function.
The way your outdoor spaces function, are an incredibly important factor in getting your landscape garden design right. Think about how you want to use each space and the number of people that you need to accommodate for. For example, you might want to be able to entertain for a large family and need a space designated in the garden, for this to happen. This will mean that you will need, to allocate enough space to make this happen. Having a large lawn area for the kids to play, might be your main wish and therefore, you will need to divide the space, according to how you need it to function. It is also, at this stage, that you need to think about some of the less attractive items in the garden, like bins, clotheslines and BBQ’s. These are all functional items, that need to be included, when considering how your outdoor garden design, will function.
4. Don’t forget the maintenance.
An outdoor garden landscape, needs at least some maintenance, while others might need a whole lot more. For most of us these days, life is busy enough, without having to spend too much time with the upkeep. With the right landscape garden design, you will be able to choose the inclusions to suit the level the of maintenance you require.
