Juralco dealer, HomePlus Exteriors, in collaboration with Mike Roulston Architecture, delivered a design-led residential project at Epsom, Auckland. With a strong focus on liveability, this three-bedroom home balances a refined architectural form with carefully integrated building systems. A Japandi-inspired palette underpins the design, blending the warmth of natural materials with contemporary textured finishes. A standout of the project is the use of aluminium balustrading systems to reinforce the architectural language. On the street-facing elevation and front deck profile, the Stecca Fin Face Fixed Aluminium Balustrade is used as a primary element and a compliance feature. Its vertical fin profile aligns with the decorative aluminium fins present on the home’s exterior, extending this language across the building and creating a cohesive visual rhythm. This repetition introduces depth and shadow, strengthening the home’s street presence while maintaining a consistent design logic.

A defining aspect on the exterior of the home is the use of balustrading. The Stecca® Fin Face Fixed Aluminium Balustrade has been installed across the outdoor decking, where it provides visual interest while meeting safety requirements. Its vertical fin profile is a central feature of the design, referencing the decorative aluminium fins articulated on the upper level of the home. This repetition establishes a consistent rhythm, ensuring the exterior of the home reads as a cohesive and resolved composition. The Stecca® system offers practical advantages suited to modern residential living. Constructed from high quality aluminium, it provides excellent durability in exposed environments and requires minimal maintenance over time. The integrated handrail refines the system while maintaining full compliance and usability. Its clean design also allows for consistency across different applications.

Internally, this emphasis on clarity and continuity is carried through with the use of the Edgetec Infinity balustrading system within the stairwell. Defined by its frameless glass construction, the system has been selected for its ability to minimise visual weight and allow light to move freely throughout the home. Despite its minimal appearance, the frameless glass system is engineered for strength and safety, using toughened glass that meets requirements. Its precision detailing allows the balustrade to recede into the background while still performing its safety function

Across the project, both balustrading systems have been carefully selected and detailed to align with the broader architectural intent. The Stecca® aluminium system provides structure, rhythm, and durability externally, while the Edgetec frameless glass system enhances lightness and continuity internally. Together, they contribute to spatial efficiency, visual cohesion, and long-term performance, demonstrating how considered specification can change both the aesthetic and functional qualities of a home.

The result is a home that feels considered at every level. From the exterior to the internal transitions, the design demonstrates how cohesion across materials and systems can enhance both experience and usability. It responds effectively to its suburban setting while offering a calm, contemporary residence tailored to everyday life. and highlights the value of integrating detailing and design intent from the outset. It’s a project that showcases how highly functional elements like balustrading systems can play a critical role in shaping a home that is both stunning and liveable.
