This Artsy San Francisco Home Embraces the Concept of Beautiful Decay

For this San Francisco, California residence, what began as a modest renovation to address water damage quickly evolved into an ambitious full-scale rebuild, with the studio Medium Plenty at the helm. Casa Aspetto was crafted for an art-inclined couple and their two children, drawing inspiration from the concept of “beautiful decay.” The studio utilized warm, textured elements chosen for their potential to develop a rich, time-worn patina.
Adhering to the stringent design guidelines of the neighborhood, Medium Plenty designed a modest, three-story house that thoughtfully maximized every inch of usable space. The previously cramped living areas were transformed into spacious environments ideal for hosting gatherings, seamlessly extending to outdoor spaces to provide additional room for entertainment.
The redesign process was highly collaborative, with the homeowners deeply involved in shaping their dream home alongside the studio. The partnership yielded beautiful, bespoke interiors reflecting the family’s unique taste and style. Among the home’s highlights is a specialized media room with sound isolation measures, a custom bay window nook, a rotating game table, and walls adorned with bold, colorful wallpaper. Sustainability was also carefully considered with the installment of rainwater reclamation, solar and hydro-thermal panels for energy production, and heat pumps for heating and cooling.
Casa Aspetto is a striking home that excels in all aspects, each element resonating with a profound sense of place, character, and artistic expression.
