...The aim of this renovation project was to gain a better function and aesthetic design of the interior spaces

Our client bought an existing home circa 2005 and contacted us in 2014 to assist with design ideas to refurbish their interiors. The aim of the project brief was to gain better function and aesthetic design of the interior spaces, which was more appropriate to current times while keeping the design simple and relatively timeless. Priority areas were the kitchen dining, living, main suite, dressing room and gallery, with the view to keep to a disciplined budget to maximise the value and outcome. The time frame of the construction was also minimised to reduce the disruption of moving out to a temporary accommodation during the refurbishment.

Natural looking clear finish oak timber is pared back to deliberate accents and recesses, referencing Scandinavian architecture design as a source of inspiration. Another priority was to redesign the lighting internally to the priority areas, with particular consideration to the curved glass faced rendered living and dining wall. A slimline clear anodised flat bar rail that curves with the existing wall provides a subtle form of an art hanging rail.

Within the kitchen, a generous island bench acts as the central hub for casual gatherings and meals for family and friends. The grey tones of the white Carrara marble compliments the glass face render and the stainless steel finishes nearby. A new space was annexed to the kitchen as a butler’s pantry, achieving an efficient space to house most appliances, with the ability to close off the space when entertaining at home.

An existing store room upstairs was transformed into a new dressing room with direct access from the main suite. A large oak sliding door leading into the main suite offers an extension of space and new access in and out of the main suite from the stair landing. Within the main suite, an existing skinny rove was removed to create a much wider bedroom. The increase in size also allows for highlight windows to be added to the main suite for valuable cross ventilation and daylight.

The ensuite was completely remodelled into a more functional space, with his and her vanity spaces, a large shower and more natural light. A long custom formed limestone vanity bench conceals hand towel rails below the bench, elegantly balancing out the warm timber cabinetry tones. In the middle of the bench, sits a design centrepiece, the focal point when entering the ensuite.
