The brief for this project was to add a new Master Bedroom, WIR & Ensuite; a new Deck, including a partial cover; and a Winter Sunroom, including a wood fireplace.

The right-wing of the existing house had been renovated a few years back using some recycled hardwood components such as windows and doors. Our brief was to extend and renovate the other wing in a sympathetic way to the original work, however adding our own design flair and using hardwood elements to match. An important part of the brief was to achieve a natural indoor-outdoor flow with a clear definition of social & private areas whilst providing an appealing mass volume. 

A Dressing room was added at the existing study's location, which we extended towards the yard to place the Master Bedroom with the bed facing out and adding a reading space at the end. An existing laundry was refitted for the Ensuite. 

The small deck in between wings was extended towards the yard. Custom hardwood double posts hold a partial cover above the extended deck and a slatted hardwood screen provides texture alongside the deck hiding services like gutters and downpipes from the master bedroom. Recycled hardwood windows and doors provide controlled transparency between the deck and the lower level master bedroom whilst linking indoor & outdoor. 

A free-standing portal frames the rear facade. On the north side, hardwood double posts and shutters partially enclose the Winter Sunroom. A built-in bench frames the floor level difference and a custom-designed firewood steel shelf sit proudly near the fireplace.
