Bardia Public School: A community-focused educational complex for 1000 K-6 students, featuring innovative learning spaces, special education units, and extensive outdoor areas, designed to foster collaboration and connectivity.
Client: NSW Department of Education
The new complex relocates the existing school’s facilities away from heavy traffic to create a community focal point catering for 1000 K-6 students in 44 Home Bases, including four special education units, a communal hall, community learning centre, sports pitch, and external play and learning areas. Innovative and flexible learning spaces encourage open learning with diverse learning environments while maximising external connections for student and staff movement. The project saw the combined home bases to provide a flexible and collaborative learning layout. The challenge for the interior was to create a sense of defined smaller spaces with very few walls. This was achieved by implementing a variety of furniture settings and using the ceiling finishes and lighting to define learning zones.
