Black Rock

This contemporary townhouse by the bay in Black Rock is a captivating project with luxury finishes selected by Susie Miles Design and elegantly completed in 2024. Susie’s clients wanted a dream home with luxury finishes. With the serene bay 300 metres away, the clients’ vision for their townhouse was to avoid a cookie cutter approach and create a luxury retreat with bursts of colours they love from the sea. The result is a home with a striking blend of refined design, pops of colour and functionality with high end finishes.

The clients had already looked at a lot of interiors online and didn’t know how to edit their ideas and were overwhelmed by all the choices to be made. They didn't want to make expensive design mistakes and hired Susie Miles to help them get it right, refine their ideas and create a beautiful home that met all their needs. Susie guided them to find their personal style, creating a moodboard of paint colours, finishes, flooring, tiles, furniture and fabrics to show how the style and colours worked together and flowed from indoors to out.

So many things make this a dream home with unique interiors and exquisite finishes such as blonde timber floors, black metal doors, oak cabinetry, Carrara marble accents, and sheer linen curtains flanking the expansive living space.

A standout feature of the kitchen is the marble island bench featuring Japanese curved tiles cladding one end of the curved island, adding texture and interest to the clean lines of the open plan living space. The curve softens the space and makes for easy access to the dining and living zone.

The luxurious and comfortable open plan living area is flanked by wrap-around glass doors and a limestone clad fireplace for cosy winter nights. It flows through to a north facing backyard paved in the same limestone and set up for entertaining and dips in the pool in summer.

Inside, the home is designed to feel open and inviting with the seamless flow from indoors to out. Stepping into the living areas, a personalised colour scheme mirrors the hues of the beach, with bursts of turquoise, mint, and royal blue in a rug designed especially for the space. Carefully selected artworks and custom furniture pieces sourced by Susie Miles and crafted by local Australian brands bring character into the living spaces, including a striking cluster of handblown glass pendants above the curved oak dining table. With the northern aspect, the living area is sunlit, bright and airy bringing in natural light in summer when you can open the doors to invite in the breeze.

When the clients walk into their home, it feels like theirs, it reflects their personalities and the way they want to live. Ideal for the family who wanted a home that combined luxury with practicality.
