Civil engineering project for Babich Winery, featuring extensive paving solutions for large vehicle access and effective stormwater management in Marlborough's state-of-the-art winery completed in December 2013.
Since 1916 the Babich family name has been synonymous with some of New Zealand’s greatest wines. Sitting comfortably within the natural landscape, their architecturally designed, 4000m2 state-of-the-art Marlborough winery was completed in December 2013 and is capable of processing 6500 tonnes of fruit annually.
Babich wine is distributed throughout the country under a variety of well known labels. As a result large vehicles frequent the plant.EDC’s civil team were asked to develop an extensive area of paving that allowed large truck and trailer units to traverse between the upper and lower levels in a controlled manner. With harvest time looming, time frames were tight. Consideration and management also needed to be given to areas of the site adjacent to a large storm water channel.
By working collaboratively with third party structural engineers and council, a well-considered and complimentary paving solution was approved and private drainage managed.
