Where some engineering companies falter, EDC is respected as an engineering firm that rises to the challenge – this high density, multi-story townhouse development was one such project. 

As an Albany based consultancy with several large local projects already under their belt, EDC were familiar with the challenging terrain on this job. Topographically this large section was both narrow and imposingly steep (creating temporary stability issues that needed to be considered early in the design) and for good measure there was also the sensitive marine environment to be considered.

As a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy EDC has a unique advantage generally only afforded to larger engineering brands. Working collaboratively across their civil, structural and geotech teams, EDC had all bases covered and a significant and cost effective structural design strategy was implemented.

A large retaining wall was put in place at the rear of the section and the property was then extensively terraced. Tilt slab construction was recommended along with a combination of timber pole walls and Keystone walls to allow for manageable access to all townhouses.

Visiting this elegant Euro-inspired terraced development now, and knowing what was here originally, you’d be surprised at just how much has been achieved. EDC are conscious of cost, but will not cut corners. It was this company philosophy that provided EDC’s client on this project with peace of mind throughout.
