Sitting in a privileged location by the sea, the brief for this project was to renovate an existing aged coastal home. The original house was heavily weathered, including three original gable roof inserts, dominant on the main elevation which needed to be somehow renovated as part of the facade makeover. Internally, the house, regardless of its location by the sea, was dark and had multiple spaces disconnected from each other. The brief included opening the house to views and natural light whilst improving significantly its internal flow. The design approach was to use the existing three gable roof inserts and turn them into the main feature of the design, giving the original house a modern twist whilst keeping its traditional lines. Cutting the original eaves and introducing different textures provided a fresh look, whilst adding vertical trims following the now new triple gables gave the elevation a completely new rhythm.
