Dover Heights sits among the most exposed coastal pockets of Sydney, where wind, salt and sun put real pressure on outdoor materials. This home leans into that setting, using a single stone across every level of outdoor living so the eye never has to adjust from one space to the next.

What stands out is restraint. The fire pit zone shares the same material language as the main terrace, just in a different texture, which is what makes the home feel considered rather than assembled.

Sydney coastal architecture

Perched on a clifftop in Dover Heights, this residence called for a natural stone that could hold its own against one of Sydney’s most dramatic coastal backdrops. Cathedral Limestone was specified across the outdoor spaces, bringing a quiet consistency to a home designed for coastal living at its best.

Material Application

Cathedral Limestone Alfresco tiles are used across the rooftop terraces and entertaining areas, their warm, sandy tones sitting comfortably alongside white render, timber and the deep blue of the Pacific beyond. The same stone continues through the pool coping, framing a pool that looks directly out to the ocean.

Design Integration

Throughout the entertaining areas, Cathedral Limestone works in contrast with checkerboard tile detailing to the outdoor kitchen and feature walls. The warmth of the stone softens the graphic pattern, creating a balance that feels both considered and relaxed.

Outdoor Living

The outdoor spaces also include a sunken curved seating area with a fire pit, where Cathedral Crazy Paving wraps around the base and floor. This creates a more intimate, sheltered zone, despite the scale and openness of the surrounding views.
