"Contemporary Charm between the Old and New"
Our aim was to respect the heritage qualities of the streetscape and the existing landscape and yet, provide a contemporary extension that maximises daylight access and is configured for modern day living.
In considering the orientation of the site, as well as solar access through a 3D analysis, the team at StudioJLA decided on a single-level extension to balance lighting and shadowing.
The open-plan living extension seamlessly integrates itself with the outdoors, with a carefully positioned courtyard to receive the northerly aspect to allow for optimal daylight access.
We like to think that this extension demonstrates how contemporary design can compliment this heritage home while respecting its character and proportion to lead to a good design outcome suitable for everyday living.
