Architecturally designed but feeling tired, this home was in need of a refurb. Recently purchased by the new owners, a family of five, the interior spaces needed to feel comfortable but also contemporary and sophisticated. The addition of a third bedroom downstairs with built in homework and gaming space allowed the children to have their own zone. On the upper floor we removed a lintel that divided the lounge from the kitchen and dining room. This changed the upper floor dramatically and really connected all of the communal zones.
The large modular sofa was an existing piece that was incorporated into the design and defines the casual family living area. The lounge was given a slightly more formal feel with the bold le Corbusier wallpaper in black and Simon James furniture.
Black is pulled through the interior and is used to frame the stair where the glass balustrade was removed, stringer painted and balustrade re-installed. The black hex pendant by Simon James hangs over the landing. The old carpet and tiles were pulled up and new engineered oak timber flooring was installed to the stairs, kitchen, laundry, dining, living and lounge and really connects the spaces. We matched the colour of the timber veneer kitchen and laundry joinery to the floor to avoid any visual contrast between furniture and flooring. The solid oak handrail was also stained to match.
Consistency of materials really harmonises spaces. Solid surface Corian benchtops were installed not just for their beauty but to ensure longevity. Led lighting floods both the appliance garage and the coffee area. Blum pocket doors are used to ensure doors are tucked right out of the way. The large master bedroom and ensuite were revamped. Storage needed to be maximised in the ensuite and the lighting was amped up. we installed Hansgrohe tapware including Hansgrohe puravida basin mixers and abi semi recessed bowls. New large format tiles equal lesser grout lines and open up the space visually. The mirrors are designed specifically for the room and sit over the existing window, disguising it and adding great height and light to the space. We decided to have some fun with the guest wc by using a playful wallpaper on a dark background that connects to the formal lounge. Abi copper plumbing fixtures really finish the room.
