In revitalizing this large home, we considered how we can make family life easier on a daily basis. We took as much care to enhance the small, hidden, practical everyday spaces as the real showcase public areas.

We utilised the high pitch of the roof and worked around an existing bedroom to create a new open-plan kitchen, dining and living area with a snug plus a new master suite and garage. To achieve a cohesive effect, every room was reworked. A cathedral ceiling fills the new living area with light. It faces out through a covered deck to the lawn and pool so parents can sit and enjoy these spaces watching children playing outside. The home has a rugged, lodge-like exterior and inside it is light and soft. Materials add warmth, making it inviting and cosy.

A subtly rich textural palette includes battened timber around cabinetry doors, paired with grey stone benchtops and splashback. Through a beautiful reeded glass and steel door, those same materials continue through to the scullery/laundry, hidden behind the kitchen. In a wall of storage cabinetry, a clever sliding battened screen moves up and down to conceal/reveal the TV and a laundry chute is handy in one of the renovated bathrooms.

This place truly celebrates the both the grand and the small moments of family life, offering different spaces that bring joy.
