The essence of the project was to open up the space, but simultaneously create intimate spaces for business and leisure. Each space and its features had to be designed with thoughtful intent, to allow the North-Western sun to bleed into every room, whilst utilising all the space effectively. The 1920s apartment building created challenges for the build. Large steel beams and items like the IMO kitchen, had to be transported in the modified service lift or carried up the stairs to the seventh storey apartment and assembled in-situ. This apartment seamlessly brings together what is best about the old and the new, to create a comfortable home in the heart of downtown Auckland. Fluted glass sliding doors acted as a nod to the building’s art deco style, while the steel framing tied in with the brass fittings and surface mounted conduit to give a raw, peeled back feel to the interior. A harmonious blend of modern design and 1920s architecture, this downtown Auckland apartment features intimate spaces bathed in natural light, showcasing fluted glass doors and raw steel framing for a unique living experience.
