By DBJ - The Craft of Custom Cabinetry
Our clients, a young family with two children under six years old, requested a modern kitchen with a luxurious finish featuring marble, stone, and stainless steel textures. They desired ample storage space for their love of cooking and baking, including large bins for recycling, and a hidden area for breakfast-making and shakes/smoothies to keep counters organised.
The family sought sustainable materials with integrated energy-efficient room air conditioning and wanted to incorporate colourful accents to create an inviting and vibrant atmosphere. They also required a dedicated spot for storing chargers and electronics, maintaining a clutter-free workspace. The design included hidden fridges seamlessly incorporated into the design with handles and unique detailing to add a touch of personality.
Our goal was to create a visually stunning and highly functional kitchen that exceeded the family's expectations and brought their vision to life.
DESIGN STATEMENT
As you walk into the Orewa clifftop kitchen, the invisible white marble creates an incredibly striking first impression, complemented by the bold and beautiful ‘white wall rocking’ upper splashback and the stunning marble on the vertical surfaces.
We were able to fit all the client's design requirements into the kitchen by carefully considering every detail. We were able to tuck the fridge behind a wing wall to facilitate the client's wishes.
To maintain symmetry, the main part of the kitchen was designed with a hidden breakfast and shake/smoothie-making area behind sliding bifold doors. The 35-litre Hideaway Concelo bin was used for waste and recycling and can be opened with either the handle or electric servo drive by touch.
Internal storage was made up of Blum's Legrabox range, offering practical and functional storage solutions. We also incorporated a curved theme into the custom-made stainless steel shroud that housed the Schweigen rangehood, giving a unique touch to the space.
The curved theme was also applied to the custom handle detail, which features a radius on the outer edges of each handle, creating a sleek and modern look. Stainless steel trimmings were brought into the kitchen through the rangehood, tapware, and custom-made stainless steel shelf and doubles as a useable shelf, adding both style and function to the space.
The custom grill ran seamlessly above the cabinetry, integrating the rangehood and air conditioning componentry into the overall design. We incorporated an integrated shelving unit made from 6mm aluminium with the same custom colour and this houses a docking and charging station for household devices.
The door detailing was mitred on the outer edges, so no end panels are seen from any angle of the kitchen. The custom colour, matched from a Dick Frizzle painting, adds warmth with a pop of colour to the space, creating vibrancy with the invisible white marble, stainless trimming, and ‘white wall rocking’ stonework. Integrated lighting in the breakfast bar and shakes/smoothie area, a sensor-driven extractor unit and integrated LEDs in the underside of the aircon grill panel provide both style and function, creating an overall cohesive and stunning design.
