A modern transformation of a former office building into a light-filled apartment, featuring a unique light shaft for natural ventilation and awarded the 2021 New Zealand Institute of Architects Housing Alterations and Additions national award.
Once offices, this 5m wide building along the Avon River in Christchurch has now been converted into a contemporary central city apartment.
The upper floor is occupied by the main living areas, flooded with light from skylights above, whilst the lower level has now been converted to form their office, art studio, garage and workshop.
A 'light shaft' located centrally in the dwelling connects the two levels and provides much of the natural light and natural ventilation needed below.
This apartment won the 2021 New Zealand Institute of Architects Housing Alterations and Additions national award - the best of its kind in New Zealand in 2021.
