ABOUT THE PROJECT

The brief required a master suite; a private retreat for the parents which still maintained a strong connection to the existing home. Re-orientation of the internal layout and the addition of the timber clad master suite provides connection to both the existing dwelling and the views to the trees beyond. The addition is perched above the site, taking advantage of the abundance of natural light and north-east sea breezes. The curved form was designed to block out overlooking from the villa units to the rear, whilst making the most of its position high above the back yard.

The void left underneath the addition is a multi-use space which acts as car parking, outdoor entertaining and an undercover play area which links the house to the back yard: a relationship previously not utilised. The result is an elegant form, which wraps the corner of the original weatherboard house while the vertical timber cladding sits as one with the Jacarandas in the yard beyond.

About the
Professional

As a team of architects, designers and project managers with local knowledge and international experience, we are constantly putting our skills to the test to create outstanding design solutions for our clients across the multi-residential, workplace, education, health, retail, community, residential, industrial and hospitality sectors.

Architecture is expressive, innovative and creative, but it’s also about solving problems and overcoming limits. Our team challenge the status quo, elevate clients’ missions, and seek to measurably improve lives and communities.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
