Project: St Albans Café
Status: Complete
Typology: Commercial / Aged Care
Contractor: Contract Construction
Photography: Grant Davis
Based in the heart of Christchurch City’s foremost fringe suburb, the St Albans Retirement Village required a refresh to remain in keeping with its increasingly contemporary neighborhood. By extending and updating the existing care facility’s entrance, the design and construction of a new reception and café creates a sleek and current front of house which ushers the entire building into modernity. The inviting café space is both intimate and airy, spilling seamlessly outside into a lush courtyard space. Framed by warm cedar tones and vibrant landscaping, the courtyard provides residents and visitors with a delightful social hub and places dynamic interactivity on display at the forefront of the facility.
To us, architecture is not about the buildings we design. It’s about the people who inhabit the spaces within and around them. With that in mind, we’re not only accountable to our clients, but also to every person who sets foot inside one of our buildings. It’s a big responsibility which we take very seriously.
IKON is passionate about creating great spaces for working, learning, living and care. We pride ourselves on our meticulous approach which ensures not only the best outcome for each project but also the best process along the way.
Since founding in 1976, we’ve built a rich portfolio of projects across commercial, community, health, multi-use sporting and leisure. Our longevity is a testament to our client and a results-focused team that work towards the same goal: producing the best outcomes for you, your building and those who will use it.
